'Poltergeist activity'
Whilst driving up the hill of Holmer road as you approach the top, on the corner is where the Starting Gate is. This relaxing family restaurant and pub is a popular with locals has it provides the right service for a family evening out and is also a summer hotspot, the building looks very modern from the outside but as you step inside the pub, the wooden structure and old surroundings awaits you. This charming out of town pub and restaurant was previously a private home, the pub looks rather pleasant but it has a more sinister side with ghostly activity frequently occurring. For a long time this pub as been known to have had a lot of paranormal activity, the locals know of every spooky happening and many staff who have worked at the pub have often said of their strange experiences .
The main focus point of all the happenings seem to be from the cellar, the cellar is believed to be the most haunted part of the pub and apparently always has been, there are stories that somebody died down there when the pub was house. The workers have often heard noises in the cellar and the sound of footsteps on the stone cellar steps whilst they have been behind the bar serving customers, the most worrying and frightening incident that as once happened was when a worker was in the cellar, he saw a bottle rise out of a case and then quickly move in the air to the side which was directed towards him, fortunately he had time to move. Other strange incidents are of tables and chairs that move around by ghostly hands, chairs have once been found placed on the tables for some bizarre reason.
Many bar objects including glasses also seem to topple over on regular occasions on their own accord, all kinds of items move behind the bar. The history of the building dates back quite a while back, when the pub was a private house it was called Glenthorne which was occupied by a Mrs. Ballard in 1891 and then followed by a Mrs. Jane Smith in 1937.The house was changed into a pub around fifty years ago, no one knows why this pub is so haunted but then again no one knows what happened when the building was a house and what events could of taken place.
