'spooks in a salon'
This local hairdresser's has so many creepy ghost stories that it really would make your hair stand on end and it is not just the salon staff that have experienced these paranormal accounts, customers have been at the receiving end of it as well, the most unforgettable ghostly moment was when a lady was sat down pleasantly enjoying having her hair cut when she and the hairdresser saw an empty cup of coffee drastically slide across the shelf in front of them, this unexpected ghostly phenomena cannot be explained as there was no sudden wind that could of caused it.
Loud bangs, banging on doors and footsteps are daily occurrences at the hairdressers and are heard coming from all areas of the salon and a mysterious black cat has been seen many times by the staff, customers have seen the cat as well has many people have come in and asked where the black cat is on that day. The old staff room was also haunted; bright lights were often seen in this room. Glasses smash in the upstairs part of the salon, the chairs move on their own and a member of staff once saw all of the chairs pointing in one direction.
The most disturbing and worrying incident to happen was when a cup was thrown in to mid air in the direction of a worker's head, fortunately it didn't hit her, a piece of wood has also been thrown at someone. Amongst other things that go on cigar smoke is often smelt in the basement along with a growling noise that can sometimes be heard, this room is where the staff feel uneasy in and they normally don't go alone as they feel as if they are being watched by ghostly eyes. The most bizarre experience to take place was when the staff went to open the shop one early morning, they discovered that all of the window's in the reception area of the shop were steamed up and handprints were all across them which was much to the surprise to the staff as the heating is never left on at night and the shop was locked up, so where did the mystery handprints come from? So why is this salon so haunted? And why are all these experiences so different to one another?
The ghosts of this building are more than likely to be from different eras. The original name of Maylord street was Maliers street and the building is under the address 7-9 Maylord street, a public house named The Golden Cross was in many trade directories under number 7 which can possibly indicate that part of the building or possibly the whole of the building was a public house which may explain the odd smell of whiskey and cigar smoke in the cellar, a butcher's and a baker's also occupied this site after the inn , there is also a story that a young boy died in this building ,so it seems that this building can give alot more than a haircut as it is extremely haunted and is full of history, so when walking inside this building always remember that it isn't just the hair scissors waiting for you!
