You always know when Halloween is close to arriving. It is the time of year when there is a chill in the air, trees are bare and you tread on crispy leaves. Shops all around you have Halloween costumes displayed and children are full of excitement to go out and 'trick or treat'.

But Halloween has not always been celebrated like this, Halloween came from an ancient Celtic festival called Samhain. The festival announced the end of the summer season and the beginning of the winter season, they Celts believed that spirits would be more likely to be in our atmosphere on this day because of the long hours of winter darkness. The celts used to say that on this night the barrier between our world and the spirit world was at its weakest and that spirits would be seen.On the 31 st October the celts would celebrate this day bY dancing around a lit bonfire, they believed that this bright bonfire would scare all evil spirits away.

So this is why people associate ghosts with Halloween, as for witches, well they have been associated with Halloween for years, it is believed that on Halloween they would all gather on broomsticks to celebrate a party hosted by the devil. Halloween is also remarkably one of the oldest celebrations in the world, dating back to 2,000 years.
