This castle is said to be the most haunted castle in Britain, the castle has a chilling ghostly reputation. The amounts of paranormal activity that has been reported here would take days to read!There is two main ghosts said to haunt this castle but other than these two ghosts there has been reportings of a cavalier,a grey lady, shadows, strange lights, voices, cold spots and freak winds. There is no doubt about it, the castle is severely haunted. The other ghost story of Berry Pomeroy is of the two ghosts of two brothers that mounted their horses and rode off the top of the castle and died. People have heard frequent sounds of horses galloping, screams and then a sudden thud to the ground.

The castle was built by the Pomoroy family during the 12th century. The family moved to devon during the time of the Norman invasion in 1066. The family lived at the castle up un until 1547. The castle was then sold to a man called Edward Seymour. Edward was the Duke of Somerset and Lord Protector.When the Seymour's moved in they wanted to turn the castle into a fine mansion,so they started work,however this work was left uncompleted when they moved from the castle and moved into their Wiltshire home. After the Seymour's moved not much was done with castle,it was left there as a ruin.

There are two main ghosts that haunt Berry Pomeroy,the ghost of the white lady and the ghost of the blue lady. The white lady is said to be the ghost of Margaret Pomeroy. This ghost apparently haunts the dark dungeons and also rises from St . Margaret's tower to the castle's ramports where she has been seen beckoning witnesses. Poor Margaret had a slow,painful death. Her evil sister Eleanor locked her up in the dungeon because she was jealous of her pure beauty and her affections for the man that Eleanor loved. Maragret eventually died in the dungeon through starvation.

The ghost of the blue lady is said to be the ghost of one of the Norman lord's. The blue lady has been seen in all parts of the castle. The young girl was apparently raped by her own father. After this she soon became pregnant and he then killed the newborn baby by strangling the poor child to death.
